Walkabout Post One – Brian Takes a Walkabout…..

As some of you know, I shut things down for a bit, and hit the road. Well, here I am, on the road.

Things got off to a slow start, as I worked a few last minute orders and others things I had put off….I managed to get out at 1:00pm. Driving out 26, I remembered a couple things I wanted to pick up, and made a stop in Tanasbourne. Not the best idea, but very fruitful. Burning another hour, I managed to pick up a couple cheap hooded sweatshirts from Old Navy, and new headphones from Target. This time, I was ready to do and officially on the road.

Before I left, I had no real plan, just that I would be heading to the coast. In asking a few people for recommendations, I found that each person had their own idea of the perfect destination. Wanting to give them all an opportunity, I headed for Astoria to get things started. It was getting dark when I arrived, and I was driving in a car, so I’m sure I didn’t really take it all in. What I saw reminded me of Hood River or Bend, and I will certainly make it back another time. Just a little too busy for this trip.

A drive through Gearhart and Seaside, I realized I was looking for something, and they just weren’t quit it. I traveled on to Cannon Beach and decided that it was to dark and I wanted to get a fresh start in the morning. Grabbed a hotel and got some sleep.

Yesterday morning I hit the road, heading south. I drove through each town, waiting for something to jump out at me, and tell me to stop. Didn’t happen. Too many of the place seemed about as exciting as Beaverton, but on the coast. I finally arrived in Yachats, and discovered that this is the place I was looking for. Now that I found the destination, I need to find the right place to stay. In and out of no less than 10 hotels, mostly dives, I just was not feeling excited about anything. I was looking for something on the ocean, that had some character and wifi….that was it. Well, the wifi thing proved to be the biggest challenge. I finally chose the Adobe Resort hotel place…

In the romantic sense, it’s not the picture that I painted, but it seems to be working. Here’s the breakdown.

So, I went with a room that has no view, but was half the price…Yes, I’m cheap, but I will explain in just a sec….

For starters, when I’m sitting at the table, I only see the surrounding hills, which is better than what I see at home. So that’s good. If there was an ocean out there, I would have to stand to see it, so a little waste.

Now, this is the view from the loft above the restaurant/lounge…..perfect. It’s beautiful, it get’s me out of the room and there are bloody mary’s just a few steps away. Now, except for the two kids watching Blues Clues behind me, it’s my kind of paradise.

Okay, so now it’s on to the work at hand….I’ll let you know how it goes, as it goes.
